Pip Reed, Nutritionist and Robbie Clark, Dietitian founded The Bridal Clinic after years of helping brides and grooms get ready for their Big Day in their own practices. With an interest in the wedding and bridal industry, it has allowed them to develop weight loss programs for both the bride- and groom-to-be as well as bridal parties, relatives, and everyone in between!

By offering an online service, booking consults has never been easier. No more wasting time in traffic, finding a car park and sitting in a waiting room. Live video consults are available on desktop computers and smartphones – we are quite literally in your pocket whenever you need.

I met Pip in November last year having returned from a trip to New York, newly engaged and desperately needing some guidance. After a long battle with illness and medication, I had gained some weight and, although I was so excited to start planning my wedding, the idea of shopping for my dress filled me with dread.

If I’m honest, I wasn’t even aware of how bad things had gotten until my first appointment with Pip - I discovered I had gained so much weight that my health was now at risk and I was clinically overweight. It was an emotional and confronting time but the hope and support I received from Pip filled me with motivation and so my journey began. It was so much easier than I could have imagined and within the first few weeks, the weight started to fall off.

Pip taught me so much about nutrition and also helped me understand how my body worked to process the food I was eating. From our first meeting, Pip was not only my nutritionist but a confidant, a therapist, an advisor and a friend. Every month I looked forward to our appointments and watching the weight and measurements go down.

I have not only reached my target size but believe I am now in better shape and better health than ever because now I understand what works for me. “...I caught sight of myself in a bay window one day and thought, 'Oh god, that poor woman needs to look in the mirror before she leaves the house.' I was looking at my own reflection.”

After waking up exhausted each and every morning, before I had even got out of bed and a 30kg weight gain, I knew there was no better time.

I had had three babies in three and a half years and to say it took a toll on my body, is no understatement. With the development of an underactive thyroid post second big baby, the hair loss, huge weight gain and constant exhaustion, looking after three little ones under the age of four was increasingly seeming impossible.

Within a week of Pip's regime, my skin had lost the dullness, my hair seemed intact, my energy levels had definitely increased and I was losing weight. I couldn't believe, within 6 weeks, I had lost 9.5kgs! With minimum exercise. I am now down 15kgs, feeling great, have constant positive comments and a stronger drive to lose the last 15kgs. I'm halfway there.

When I reflect, even losing 5kg seemed impossible. I have been reconditioned with the way I think about food, lifestyle and about myself. My kids always ate healthier and better than I did, I just was too tired to make my own lunch, so I'd just eat their leftovers.

I shudder when I remember the way I was. I'd almost given up hope. Going out was a burden and I hated leaving the house....I caught sight of myself in a bay window one day and thought "Oh god, that poor woman needs to look in the mirror before she leaves the house."

I was looking at my own reflection.

It scared the hell out of me. I cried. I cried for the person I had lost sight of, the person I had become and the person who my little ones were looking up to, for guidance and I was supposed to be a loving mother. How could that be, when I didn't even love myself?

Pip Reed is my lovely secret weapon! I started seeing Pip in December 2014 when my health had crashed, weight wouldn’t shift and my wedding was 9 months away.

I have struggled with losing weight for years despite seeing doctors, endocrinologists and other nutritionists. At the time, I was training 3-5 times a week, walking daily and eating well but nothing was happening. Pip just kept looking for answers to why my health was the way it was. I had a history of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and ongoing hormonal issues, which made my presentation complicated. Despite seeing countless health professionals over the past 10 years, it was Pip who got to the bottom of my problems through never giving up. She truly just wants everyone to experience health and wellness and this passion is what makes her so special.

She knew we had to treat my hormones before the weight would shift and that is what we did. My weight is the lowest it has been in a decade (7kg loss) and I am physically smaller than before. In total, I have lost 13cm around my waist, 8.5cm off my hips, 4cms off each thigh, 7cms off my chest and 2cms off my arms. I was seeing Pip when I bought my wedding dress and I was very close to cancelling the order, as I didn’t like the pictures when I looked back. By the time I had my next fitting in 2 months, I could not believe the difference! Despite emphasising the weight loss, the most important part of the process was my new found confidence and not just with how I look but feeling confident to manage my health and weight.
